Welcome back to another page of my knitting journal...
Hope you are all safe and well!!!
It's been a fortnight since we last spoke... But Christmas are around the corner and Christmas-y staff have to be done on time...
Of course this Christmas will be like no other... No idea how we will celebrate the day... Usually, the whole family gathers and we have lunch and have fun, and then we try to digest the huge amounts of food we ate, but it seems that this year will be a little bit different...
I force myself not to see it that way, though... Staying inside is for the greater good, so it is better to act like Christmas is another Friday on the calendar... Just for now... That way we will have more Christmases to come the coming years...
But, even though we will not celebrate Christmas as usual, there are still some things we have to do...
Like buying the next year's calendar... Now, I know that I could buy it online... But, firstly, shipping in Greece is a nightmare... Everything is stuck... And secondly, I prefer to buy locally and I was planning on going to the stationary shop when they open... I ended up buying my calendar on Friday... Which is unlike for me... I like to buy these things early... I am not a last minute person...
Anyways...
Today, I also made one of the two traditional "cookies"... Melomakarona... It is a honey cookie we make mostly with flour and spices like cinnamon and clover and we dip in a syrup we make with the same spices... If you are interested this is a link to the recipe... Tomorrow I will make the second one which is Kurambie another cookie we make with a lot of butter and icing sugar to cover... If you are interested this is the link to the recipe...
And among all those things I managed to have 3 FOs, 1 HO and a new cast on...
Let's move on to my knitting...
My Finished Objects
I finished the cowl I was working on and I cast-on and finished the hat as well... These two are part of the Malin Set by Drops Designs.
The hat flew off my needles... It took me less that 3 evenings to knit and I didn't knit on it that much...
I used 4,5mm needles for the ribbing in both projects and 5,00mm needles for the rest... The yarn is Yarn Art Everest... The yarn is part of the "Finish my Stash" decision I made during the lockdown...
That doesn't mean I will not buy any yarn at all, but I aim to finish what I already have before I buy something new...
The other finish object I have is the KAL socks... I finished both of them and I, although my boyfriend has already seen them and tried them, I will put them in a nice back and give them to him as a present...
I used 2,5mm needles for the rib and the parts without colourwork and 3,00mm needles for the colourwork parts... I knit on DPNs and the ones I use are Knit Pro... The yarn is Drops Fabel in Royal Blue, Light Grey and Off White.
Here in Greece we exchange gifts on New Year's Eve, so he has to wait for a little longer...
My Half Finished Objects
I finished the first sock of my movie night knitting...
I knit it toe-up and I made the fleegle heel... This is the first time I try that heel and I think it is my favourite...
I used Drops Fabel in the colourway Sand and I knit the whole sock in 2,5mm needles...
I really like the colour and the way it is knit up and I will probably buy it again to make him a hat or cowl... Or both...
My Works In Progress
When I bought the yarn for the Christmas socks I thought that I might be able to make two pairs... One with the blue as the main colour and one with the grey as the main colour...
Each skein is 50 grams... So I bought two skeins of blue and two skeins of grey with that in mind...
I am knitting the second pair for my mother... She has slightly smaller feet, so I will manage to make a second pair with grey...
As you can see, I made some changes... I changed the position of the charts, which doesn't make a big difference on the finished project, but I also change the direction of the sock and the heel constraction... I decided to knit this sock toe-up, instead of cuff-down and I did the fleegle heel... Again...
I didn't like picking up stitches on the cuff-down sock and I find the fleegle heel to be easy to work and without wholes or other "problems"... So far it works perfectly and I really like the outcome...
If I had bought a second skein of white I could make a third pair as well, but I don't see myself wearing white socks... I mean, I do wear white cotton socks, but they are not hand-knit... But when I finish the second pair, I will see how much I have left and I will see if I can make something for me... We will see...
On my mother's sock I have finished the foot and I need one chart and the rib to finish the leg as well... Since I want to knit it for the gift exchange, I feel that I have plenty of time to make the second sock as well...
My Movie Night Knitting
Last week we watched Die Hard 2 and this week we watched Die Hard with a Vengeance...
Needless to say that we knew how it goes, we liked it but there was no surprise there... It is what it is... But we like it...
On the knitting part of the movie, I already cast on the second sock and I am half way through the foot... I expect it to be the first finished object of the new year and I think it will not take long to finish it...
I know I have the vest to finish, but I don't think I will finish it this year... We will see...
That's all for now...
Stay safe and sane...
Talk to you next week...
Merry Christmas to all of you!!!
